WE NEED TO PRAY DAILY!! In the busy world of today we may be tempted to think that we have little time for prayer, but in fact, quiet time with God is more important now than ever. Sunday is a day of prayer and of rest that God has given, because he knows that a person can be easily overwhelmed by the stress of life, if we don't take time to speak to him. Holy Mass is the ultimate prayer that is offered to God, because we offer the Eternal Sacrifice of Jesus on the cross to God in heaven.
While Sunday is the day set apart to offer to God and for our rest, we need to pray each and every day of the week as well; we need a Plan of Life. That is to say, we need to committ to some kind of structure of prayer and devotion each day, so that the Lord is ever present to us. Certainly this includes a Morning Offering when we rise, greeting the Lord, thanking him, asking his help. Prayers at meals, and prayer at the end of the day to than him, and tell the Lord we are sorry for failings. Our day should include some reading the Holy Scriptures, some time of spiritual reading from a Catholic book or by a Saint, perhaps the Rosary or a decade of the Rosary, some quiet time to reflect, away from the world, for perhaps 15 minutes or a half hour; and if we can, daily Mass. If we live like this, we will rarely feel lonely and the activities and work of our day will be beautifully united to God.
Here are some Catholic prayers:
Our Father Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen
Hail Mary Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Glory Be Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Prayer Before Meals Bless us O Lord, and these, Thy gifts, which we are about to receive, from Thy bounty, through Christ, Our Lord. Amen.
Prayer after Meals We give thee thanks Almighty God, for these and all your benefits, who lives and reigns, forever and ever. Amen. And may the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
Act of Contrition Oh my God, I am heartily sorry, for having offended you, and I detest all my sins, because I dread the loss of heaven and the pains of hell, but most of all, because they offend you my God, who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of your grace to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. Amen.
Memorare Remember O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known, that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins my Mother. To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.
Prayer to One’s Guardian Angel Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God’s love, commits me here, ever this day/night be at my side, to light, to guard, to rule, to guide. Amen.
Morning Offering O Heavenly Father, I praise you, I love you, I thank you. Help me to give you glory in all that I do this day. Good Jesus, I love you with all my heart. I offer you my joys, works, and sufferings, in reparation for my sins, for the Holy Father, and the exaltation of holy Mother the Church. OHoly Spirit, I love you. (3 times)
Morning Consecration to Mary My Immaculate Mother, I consecrate to you this day, my eyes, my ears, my mouth, my heart, my entire self without reserve. As I am all thine own my good Mother, guard me and defend me as your child and your son/daughter. Amen
The Angelus (to be said at 12:00 noon) The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary: And she conceived of the Holy Spirit. Hail Mary.....
Behold the handmaid of the Lord: Be it done unto me according to Thy word. Hail Mary . . .
And the Word was made Flesh: And dwelt among us. Hail Mary . . .
Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Let us pray: Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts; that we, to whom the incarnation of Christ Thy Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Resurrection, through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen.
Apostle’s Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day, he rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the God, the Father almighty; from there he shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
